Expert Resin Driveway Maintenance Across West Cornwall

A resin drive is a hard-wearing surface, not a maintenance-free one, and how much it asks of you depends on the property. We offer aftercare as a service: deep cleaning, treatment and resealing, either as a one off or on a regular basis. Cleaned, treated and checked over by people who lay resin for a living, it keeps its colour, keeps draining and keeps looking like the day it went down, whether we laid it or somebody else did.

What Resin Driveway Maintenance Is, and Why a Resin Drive Needs It

Resin driveway maintenance is the periodic cleaning, treatment, inspection and small-scale repair that keeps a resin surface draining freely, gripping properly and holding its colour. It is not a rescue job. It is the routine care that stops one being needed.

Resin is durable, which is exactly why people assume it looks after itself. What actually happens outdoors in Cornwall is that airborne dirt, leaf litter and organic matter settle into the surface, and in a mild, damp climate moss, algae and lichen take hold in it. The stone dulls, the surface starts to hold water instead of taking it through, and the drive stops looking new long before it stops being sound.

A resin drive is a good surface having a hard time when it is neglected, and it responds well to being looked after. That is the whole argument for this page.

What Professional Resin Driveway Maintenance Covers

Deep cleaning the surface

Lifting out the dirt, silt and organic matter that has worked down into the resin, using a method matched to the surface rather than the strongest thing available. Resin is cleaned, not blasted, because the wrong pressure at the wrong angle takes stone out.

Moss, algae and lichen treatment

Cornish drives grow things. Treating the growth properly kills what is in the surface rather than just taking the green off the top, which is why a treated drive stays clear far longer than a washed one.

Weed and organic growth at the edges

Edges, joints and the line where the drive meets a border are where growth starts and where it does the most damage. They are dealt with as part of the work, not left to be somebody else's problem.

A proper inspection of the surface

Looking for the things that turn into real repairs: hairline cracking, areas losing stone, soft spots that suggest the base underneath is moving, edges starting to break away. You get told what we found and what it means, including when the answer is that nothing needs doing.

Minor repairs and patch work

Loose or lost stone, small damaged areas, oil and fuel marks, and edge repairs, put right while they are still small.

Drainage points and channel drains

Channel drains, gullies and the falls that feed them get cleared and checked, because a drive that cannot get rid of water is a drive that stays wet, and a surface that stays wet is the one that grows moss first.

The Resin Work Behind This Service

Resin driveways and porcelain patios are the work these two are proudest of, and the drives we lay are the ones we then know inside out. Maintenance work sits alongside that, on our own installations and on plenty we have never seen before. Every photograph on this site is our own work, and we bring more of it to the visit.

These are HW resin installations, shown here because the surface we maintain is the surface we lay. Knowing how the stone went down, what binds it and how it drains is exactly what a maintenance visit trades on.

Would definitely recommend. Our driveway was a mismatch of 3 different sections of gravel, some old concrete and a step. In two days he has completely overhauled it and it looks amazing. Very fast worker, polite and professional and reasonably priced as well. You won’t be disappointed by Michael’s team at all!

Why Maintaining a Resin Driveway Pays Off

It keeps looking like a new driveResin is bought for how it looks. Cleaning and treating it is what protects the thing you actually paid for.

It keeps drainingA permeable resin surface only stays permeable while the voids in it are clear, and that is a drainage function on your property, not a cosmetic one.

It stays safe underfootMoss, algae and standing water are what makes a hard surface slippery in a wet Cornish winter, and treating them is the fix.

Small problems stay smallA lost patch of stone or a lifting edge caught early is a short repair. Left alone through a couple of winters, water gets underneath and it becomes a much bigger piece of work.

You get an honest answer about the baseWe dig and build the bases these surfaces sit on, so if what you are seeing is a base problem rather than a surface one, we will tell you that instead of cleaning over the top of it.

How a Resin Driveway Maintenance Visit Works, Step by Step

1

Tell us about the drive

Call or send the form with the postcode, roughly how long ago the drive went down if you know, and a photo or two. Photographs of the worst area and of an edge tell us most of what we need.

2

We come and look at it, free of charge

Mike or Aaron walks the drive with you, checks how it is draining, looks at the edges and the areas losing stone, and works out whether what you are seeing is surface or base.

3

You get the work set out in writing

What we would clean, what we would treat, what we would repair, and anything we think is worth watching rather than doing now.

4

We clean, treat and repair

The surface is cleaned and treated, the growth is dealt with at the edges, and any small repairs are carried out.

5

We walk it with you before we go

You see the finished surface, and you know what we found and what it will want next.

Why choose us

Why Choose HW Contractors for Resin Driveway Maintenance

A resin drive is usually laid as a permeable surface, and that permeability is designed in rather than permanent. The Planning Portal sets out the position for front gardens in England: planning permission is not required for a new or replacement driveway of any size where the surface is permeable, or where the surface water is directed to a lawn or border within the property, and permission is required where an impermeable surface of more than five square metres drains onto the road. In other words, the free draining surface is doing a real job for the property, and keeping it draining is a maintenance decision rather than a cosmetic one.

We lay resin, so we know what we are cleaning. Resin driveways are the work these two directors are proudest of, and that is a different starting point from a general cleaning round.

We built the base or we can read it. Groundworkers can tell a surface problem from a base problem.

Coastal and exposed properties tend to want looking at sooner than sheltered inland ones, so if you are near the water it is worth a conversation earlier rather than later.

How Our Resin Maintenance Quotes Work

We do not publish rates, because a drive that needs a clean and a drive that needs repairs are two different pieces of work. What you get is a free site visit with no obligation, and a written quote setting out:

the area of the drive and its current condition
what will be cleaned and how
what will be treated, and where the growth is coming from
any repairs we would recommend, and any we would leave alone for now
the drainage points and edges included in the work

Whatever is agreed is set out in writing before any work starts. If the drive turns out to need less than you expected, we will tell you that on the visit rather than quote you for work it does not need.

Resin Maintenance Questions We Are Asked Most

Does a resin driveway need maintenance?+
Yes, although far less than most surfaces. Resin is hard-wearing, but it sits outdoors in a mild, damp climate, so dirt and organic matter settle into it and moss, algae and lichen take hold. Left alone the stone dulls and the surface starts holding water instead of draining through it. How often it wants attention depends on shade, tree cover, exposure and how much traffic it takes.
What does professional resin driveway maintenance involve?+
A deep clean matched to the surface rather than the strongest method available, a treatment that kills moss, algae and lichen in the surface rather than just removing the green from the top, weed and growth control at the edges and joints, clearing the drainage points, and a proper look over the drive for lost stone, cracking or edge damage. Small repairs are carried out at the same time.
My resin driveway has lost its look. Can it be brought back?+
Usually, yes, and more often than people expect. A great many tired drives are structurally sound and simply dirty, and a proper clean and treatment brings the colour and the texture back. Where stone has been lost or an edge has broken up, that area is repaired rather than the whole drive relaid. We will tell you honestly which of the two you are looking at.
Do you maintain resin driveways you did not lay?+
Yes, and a good share of this work is exactly that. We treat somebody else's drive the same way we treat our own installations: look at it first, work out what it actually needs, and set that out in writing before anything starts. Whoever laid it, the surface responds to the same care.

Get Your Resin Drive Looked At by the People Who Lay Them

Send us the postcode and a photo of the drive, and one of us will come and tell you honestly whether it needs a clean, a repair or nothing at all. The visit is free and there is no obligation.
