Expert Driveways and Groundworks in Mullion and on the Lizard

Groundworks, excavation, drainage, drives and paving for Mullion, Cury, Gunwalloe, Poldhu and Predannack. We run out from Porthleven through Helston with our own machines and operators, and we look at the lane before we look at the garden, because on this peninsula the access decides the job.

Specialist Groundworks and Driveways for Mullion and the Lizard

Mullion is under ten miles from us in Porthleven, out through Helston and down the A3083, and it is a genuinely different place to work from the towns behind it.

Start with getting there. A great many properties on this end of the peninsula sit off unmade lanes and farm tracks, and the question that decides everything else is whether a lorry can turn at the end of one or has to reverse its full length. That is what governs how stone gets in and how spoil comes out, so on the Lizard we look at the access first and the garden second.

Then the ground. South of Helston the geology changes: the Lizard complex takes over from the granite behind it, and out towards Cury, Gunwalloe and Predannack there is heavy ground that holds water rather than takes it. Many plots here are off the mains, so where surface water goes has to be answered on site. Building Regulations Part H sets the order: a soakaway or other infiltration system where that is reasonably practicable, a watercourse where it is not, and a sewer only where neither is available.

Then the weather. There is almost nothing between Mullion Cove and the open Atlantic, and salt-laden wind is on everything from October onwards. It is the single biggest influence on what we would put down here.

Recent work

Recent Groundwork and Driveway Projects on the Lizard

The peninsula generates its own mix of work: farm and cottage entrances that take years of agricultural traffic, ground that holds water with nowhere to send it, bases and hard standings for outbuildings, and terraces and boundaries that have to be specced for exposure rather than looks. It is exactly the work our machinery and our trades are set up for.

Would definitely recommend. Our driveway was a mismatch of 3 different sections of gravel, some old concrete and a step. In two days he has completely overhauled it and it looks amazing. Very fast worker, polite and professional and reasonably priced as well. You won’t be disappointed by Michael’s team at all!

Really happy with the work from Aaron Hunt Groundworks. Aaron and his team were super easy to deal with—friendly, reliable, and clearly know what they’re doing. They turned up on time, got stuck in, and made sure everything was done properly with a great finish. They kept the place tidy and checked in with us throughout the job to make sure we were happy. No fuss, no stress—just solid, professional work. Would definitely recommend them to anyone needing groundwork done. Top team!

Extremely happy with my new patio. It wasn’t the most straight forward to lay but Aaron managed to get the finish I wanted and was completely flexible and accommodating to make it happen for our time lines. Would highly recommend.

Frequently Asked Questions About Groundworks and Driveways in Mullion

How far onto the Lizard do you go?+
Mullion sits inside our normal working area and we cover the villages around it, including Cury, Gunwalloe, Poldhu and Predannack. Further down towards the point depends on the job, because a full day of work justifies the run in a way half an hour of it does not. Ring and ask rather than assuming we will not come out.
Is there a minimum size of job you take on out here?+
It is always worth asking. Smaller jobs on the Lizard often fit alongside a bigger one nearby, so something that looks too small on its own can work perfectly well as part of a week already booked in the area. Tell us what you need and where it is, and we will give you a straight answer.
Does being this exposed change what you would use?+
It changes the material conversation, yes. Salt-laden wind, driving rain and very little shelter are hard on surfaces, on fixings and on anything that holds standing water, so dense frost resistant materials such as porcelain and granite outperform softer, more porous ones. Fence posts go in deeper and get concreted properly, because wind loading is what pulls a fence over here.
Can you get machinery down an unmade lane or farm track?+
Often yes, but it needs looking at first. What matters is the width, the surface and whether a lorry can turn or has to reverse the whole length, because that decides how material gets in and how spoil comes out. Where a track will not take a lorry there are usually ways around it, and that is a far better conversation at the quote than on the day.

Tell us where the property is, how you get to it and what you want doing, and one of us will come out, walk the access and look at the ground before anything is priced. If a track is going to be the deciding factor, we would rather know that at the quote. The visit and the quote are free.
