Expert Driveways and Patios in Penzance and West Penwith

Driveways, patios and groundworks across Penzance, Newlyn, Gulval and Heamoor. Because we do the groundwork ourselves, the base under your surface is dug and compacted by the same firm that lays the finish. Aaron Hunt and Mike Wherry bring 40 years of combined experience to it.

Specialist Driveways and Groundworks for Penzance and West Penwith

Penzance climbs. The town runs up from the harbour and the Promenade through Alverton and out towards Heamoor and Madron, and very little of it is flat. That one fact shapes more driveways and patios in Penzance than the choice of material ever does.

A drive here is a levels problem before it is a surface problem. Front gardens on the older granite terraces are small, walled and often sitting above or below the pavement, so the dig is tight, the spoil has to be planned out rather than barrowed somewhere convenient, and the falls have to carry water away from the building instead of back at it. The gardens behind them step, which brings retaining and drainage into a job that started life as a patio.

Then there is the air. From the Promenade round through Newlyn and Mousehole, salt-laden wind gets at anything porous, every fixing and anything that holds water. Dense, frost-resistant materials earn their keep here in a way they do not two valleys inland.

We come out along the A394 from Porthleven, so Penzance anchors the western end of our patch and sits inside the ordinary working week.

Would definitely recommend. Our driveway was a mismatch of 3 different sections of gravel, some old concrete and a step. In two days he has completely overhauled it and it looks amazing. Very fast worker, polite and professional and reasonably priced as well. You won’t be disappointed by Michael’s team at all!

Really happy with the work from Aaron Hunt Groundworks. Aaron and his team were super easy to deal with—friendly, reliable, and clearly know what they’re doing. They turned up on time, got stuck in, and made sure everything was done properly with a great finish. They kept the place tidy and checked in with us throughout the job to make sure we were happy. No fuss, no stress—just solid, professional work. Would definitely recommend them to anyone needing groundwork done. Top team!

Extremely happy with my new patio. It wasn’t the most straight forward to lay but Aaron managed to get the finish I wanted and was completely flexible and accommodating to make it happen for our time lines. Would highly recommend.

Frequently Asked Questions About Driveways and Patios in Penzance

Which parts of Penzance and the villages around it do you work in?+
All of it. The town itself, Newlyn and Mousehole along the coast, Gulval and Heamoor on the way out, and Madron on the hill above. Penzance work is a standing part of our week, so a survey here is a short, regular run rather than a special trip.
Our house is an older granite terrace on a slope. Does that change how a drive or patio is built?+
It changes the order of the work more than the choice of material. On a sloping plot the levels and the falls are set first, which can mean retaining, steps or a raised edge before a slab is laid. We dig first, then build the base to suit what we find.
Penzance is at the western end of your patch. Does that affect when you can start?+
Only in how we plan it. We work Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm, and a Penzance job is surveyed properly and booked as its own run rather than squeezed between others. Your start date is agreed at quote stage, and surfacing is set against the weather window it needs.
What does a sloping or terraced garden near the seafront usually need?+
Three things, in this order. Somewhere for the water to go, because every level has to drain. Retaining or steps to hold the levels you actually want. Then materials chosen for exposure, which is why dense porcelain and granite tend to outlast softer, more porous stone this close to salt air.
